Virtual Donors is an initiative by Reborn‑to‑be Alive that connects gaming with solidarity and civic responsibility. It brings organ donation into popular multiplayer games like Minecraft, Baldur’s Gate 3, and Fortnite. Players download a free mod with one core mechanic: when a player falls, their teammates receive an extra life. This mirrors real life where one organ donor saves eight lives.

Gamers are familiar with extra lives and teamwork. When one player goes down and others carry on, it directly reflects the principle of organ donation. The campaign reaches young people in their own environment and makes the impact concrete.

One organ donor saves eight lives by donating the heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, and pancreas. Tissue donation such as skin and corneas restores quality of life for additional recipients.

There are 1,474 people on Belgium’s waiting list. More than 1,100 are waiting for a kidney transplant.

In Belgium, everyone is a donor by default unless they opt out. Families are consulted at the time of death. Without explicit registration, 15 percent of families refuse donation. With registration, your wish is recorded and carried out.

Step 1: Get the tools
Download and install Java and Forge for Minecraft.

Step 2: Install the mod
Download the Virtual Donors mod and place the file in your Mods folder:

Then double‑click it and select “Install Client”.

Step 3: Play and save lives
Open the Minecraft Launcher, choose the Forge profile, and hit Play. Join the server play.virtualdonors.org.

Step 4: Become a Virtual Donor
When choosing your Passive Feats, select Virtual Donor. Your party members are automatically healed when you go down in battle.

Open Fortnite, switch to Creative mode, click the magnifying glass next to Play and type 1403 9190 0065.

Step 2: Become a Virtual Donor
Find the computer and register virtually using pin code 1470.

Step 3: Play
When you die, you drop eight hearts that heal your teammates.

In 2024, Belgium led Eurotransplant in effective donors per million people. Organ transplants increased by 8.5 percent and deaths on the waiting list decreased by 7.5 percent.
